Upcoming Area Code & UCR Prefix Change
Dear Campus Community,
As you may recall, in early March, we sent a Scotmail referring to the
upcoming Area Code change and UCR prefix phone number prefix change (from
787 to 827). This email is to provide you with a reminder of this upcoming
change as well as a listing of "Things to Think About".
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
Phones numbers are everywhere. Provided below is just a sample of the items
that may be affected by this phone number change. Please keep this change in
mind prior to finalizing printed material.
- Publications such as Schedule of Classes
- Applications which have contact phone numbers
- Fax Machine pre-programming will need to be changed
- Fax cover sheets
- Business Cards including cell phone changes
- Call Boxes - Do they need reprogramming?
- Email Signature Blocks
- Telephone speed dials
- Websites
- UCR Vendor Database
- Forms (both paper and electronic)
- Letterheads
- Filing papers to regulatory and accrediting agency's as well as
associations
- Classified advertising outside the Riverside area
REMINDER:
The CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) has mandated a new area
code (951) in Riverside. The new area code (951) will begin on July 17th of
this year. A "grace period" will exist from July 17th through October 29th
when callers to campus will have the option of using either 909 or 951.
Beginning on October 30th, the 909 area code will no longer be valid for
calls destined for campus.
KEY DATES to REMEMBER:
- July 17th is the effective date for both 909 & 951 area codes to work
- July 17th - all campus (non-resident halls) 5-digit dialing will begin
with a 2 (e.g. 8-2877 becomes 2-2877)
- July 17th is also the effective date for both 787 & 827 prefixes to work
when calling from off-campus
- October 30th is the cut off date for the 909 area code. 909 dialing will
NO longer work to call campus phone numbers
- October 30th is the cut off date for 787 to work. On October 30th callers
into campus will be required to use the 827 prefix.
Please visit: dial.ucr.edu/951/ for more in-depth details regarding
these changes or e-mail Josee Larochelle (josee.larochelle@ucr.edu) if you
have specific comments or concerns.
Please expect additional messages in the weeks and months ahead concerning
the area code and campus prefix changes.
Thank you for your support.
